The volunteers at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale generously share their time and talents throughout the hospital. But being a member of the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Auxiliary is also a chance to learn new skills, develop new interests and make new friends.

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale has a variety of volunteer positions available throughout the hospital. Volunteers are needed to help with such divergent activities as filing, pushing wheel chairs, delivering flowers, answering phones, and helping to choose the right gift. Volunteers have the option of setting their own schedules, working on a project-by-project basis or working a set schedule each week.

Membership

We welcome anyone who is interested in helping our hospital provide excellent health care in the community. We have both men and women volunteers. All volunteers are required to attend orientation and to have a TB skin test. The test is administered by hospital staff at no cost to the volunteers.

Dues are just $10.00 per year for the period April 1 through March 31. The auxiliary's annual membership meeting is held each year in early spring. New officers are elected and installed at this meeting. The hospital administration includes the volunteers in many functions such as the Christmas dinner-dance.

Choose Your Own Hours

You can work three hours a week or five days a week. We only ask that if you make a commitment, you reserve that time for your volunteer service. We appreciate our volunteers arranging to give adequate notice when they must be absent.

Training

You will receive technical training by hospital staff. Training must be complete prior to transporting patients by wheelchair. We do not expect anyone to learn the various routines in one session. You will be assigned to work with an experienced volunteer until you are very much at ease in your assignment.
