Southern Illinois Healthcare is pleased to announce Bart Millstead, FACHE*, as the new administrator at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Bart will begin his duties on July 14th, 2008. Millstead succeeds longtime administrator George Maroney, who will retire after 32 years in the position.

Millstead is a seasoned healthcare leader with a broad base of professional and clinical skills that span nearly 25 years. His early career as a registered nurse helped foster a foundation and skill set that is evidenced in his passion and commitment to patients, physicians, and employees.

“Bart is a perfect fit for our organization,” said SIH CEO and President Dr. Thomas Firestone, “His personality and clinical background bring a different dimension to the position. He truly understands the caregiver perspective.”

Millstead most recently served as regional vice president for Quorum Health Resources in Springfield, Missouri, where he supervised the overall operations and management of ten hospitals in Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas. He also previously served as Chief Executive Officer at healthcare facilities in Texas and Kentucky.

“We are going to strive to continue the excellence that has been established at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. As we continue to move forward, patient satisfaction and quality of care are going to be of the utmost importance,” Millstead said.

Millstead holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
