- Get Ready, Get Set to Go Home
When it comes time to leave the hospital with the new baby, some moms feel quite comfortable caring for themselves and their baby. Others may catch their breath and ask “What now?” That’s why The Family Birthing Center offers Get Ready, Get Set to Go Home. While the mother and baby are still in the hospital, families are invited to gather every morning at 10 A.M. in the education room to hear how to care for mom and baby once at home. For the baby, this includes the basics of child safety along with how to bathe, wrap and change the new baby. It also teaches how to care for the umbilical cord, circumcision care and how to take the baby’s temperature. Mothers will hear about the normal changes a woman’s body goes through following birth as well as those situations that warrant a call to the physician. Families who participate in “Get Ready Get Set To Go Home” find their discharge is a bit smoother and faster. We hope you can join us!!
- Infant Hearing Screenings
As required by the Newborn Hearing Screening Act of Illinois, the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Family Birthing Center provides infant hearing screenings. The state-of-the-art test provides the first step towards identifying if an infant may have a hearing problem. It is important to know that about one out of ten newborns may not pass the screening test, but that does not mean he or she is deaf or hard-of-hearing. It just means that the baby needs to have another test. If further examination is needed, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is capable of administering a diagnostic test. Your pediatrician will order the test if necessary.
