The Birthing Suites

While separate labor, delivery and recovery rooms are used in traditional deliveries, the Family Birthing Center takes a more relaxed, comfortable approach. Labor, delivery and recovery occur in a single place—a birthing suite, which is decorated and designed to create a home-like atmosphere while being equipped with the most up-to-date technology available for delivery and care of newborns. The Family Birthing Center has seven of these suites, spacious enough to include whomever the mother wishes in the room during delivery. Three of these birthing suites provide the utmost comfort during this special delivery time and are equipped with a special feature—Jacuzzi tubs. Be sure to ask your nurse if one of the suites is available when it is your time to deliver. Following initial recovery, the mother is then transferred to a postpartum suite or what we like to call a “mother/baby” suite.

MOTHER/BABY SUITES

The 10,500 square-foot mother/baby wing offers 11 private rooms and 5 semi-private rooms.

The facility was designed to provide a soothing and comfortable birthing environment featuring private alcoves instead of the standard corridor hallway to offer patients increased privacy and the feel of home. Numerous windows allow natural sunlight to illuminate the rooms and provide warmth to the space. Lighting was designed to provide several light levels and a softer lighting atmosphere. Patient rooms feature red oak wardrobes with frosted glass. Chairs that fold out into beds are also available so the father can spend the night.

To continue the comfortable atmosphere, medical gas valves are hidden by artwork that can be slid open to provide access to the equipment. The artwork depicts the joys of parenting.

At the Family Birthing Center, family-centered maternity care provides the foundation on which we build healthy, strong families. We recognize the importance of each birth for the mother and those important to her. To facilitate family bonding, we encourage “rooming-in” of the baby with the mother and we provide sibling and grandparent visitation. Our staff also practices “dyad nursing” in which the same nurse cares for the mother and her baby.
